DIY: Upcycling a Face Mask at Home

The demand for face masks continues to increase during the coronavirus pandemic, and it’s hard to keep up. The CDC advises everyone to wear masks to help slow the spread of the coronavirus, given that masks prevent droplets from spreading from an individual. However, single-use masks have become a growing environmental concern. Disposable surgical and N-95 masks have been found floating in the oceans, mimicking swimming jellyfish. The rise of plastic waste is one of the few results of the pandemic that we have to tackle.

To help solve this problem, a cloth face mask can become an easily available solution for those needing masks in non-medical settings. Cloth masks can be upcycled from old fabrics and t-shirts. Whether you can sew or not, here are a few ways to DIY a face mask at home.
